Alberta 4-H 2012 - Summer Staff Opportunties

 

Alberta 4-H requires a number of summer staff to assist with the development of tomorrow's leaders. Successful applicants will work alongside professional staff, who, through guidance and skill specialization will ensure that selected applicants' experience is one of learning, self development and increased skill in their area of work.

Mandatory Requirements for All Applicants (position-specific requirements outlined below)

  • Completion of one year of post-secondary education

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

  • Must satisfy a screening process, which may include a criminal record check and submission of a driver’s abstract

Desirable Requirements for All Applicants

  • Previous 4-H or Farm Safety experience

  • Two years of post-secondary education

  • Class 4 Driver’s License

  • Relevant position-related certifications/training (e.g.: WHMIS, canoeing, archery, environmental awareness, leadership/facilitation, etc.)

Position-Specific Requirements

  • Summer Program Assistant/Project Coordinator – Standard First-Aid certification

  • Lifeguard – NLS certification

Wage Range

  • Approximately $14 - $18/hour

  • Rate dependant on education and previous employment with the Government of Alberta or the 4-H Foundation of Alberta

  • Rates are currently under review

Length of Employment

  • Approximately May 1, 2012 – August 31, 2012 (varies with each position)

  • Employment may be terminated at any time prior to the end of this projected end date due to budget or operational requirements

  • All positions may require weekend and evening work, as well as travel throughout Alberta

NOTE:   All positions are subject to change due to budget and other factors.

Farm Safety Summer Program Assistant - 1 Position

Potential locations include Airdrie or Leduc - May 1 to August 31

  • Work closely with Farm Safety Program Coordinators to plan and implement a variety of Farm Safety Program projects across Alberta.

Provincial 4-H Outdoor Adventure/Lifeguard & Summer Program Assistant/Lifeguard - 1-2 Positions

Based in both Airdrie and the Alberta 4-H Centre (Westerose, AB) - May 1 to August 31

  • Successful applicants will aid in the planning and coordination of Alberta 4-H Foundation Outdoor Adventure program, in addition to assisting Alberta 4-H with the delivery of various summer  4-H member programs.

Provincial 4-H Summer Communications and Marketing Assistant - 1 Position

Based in Edmonton - May 1 to August 31

  • Assist various 4-H Specialists with the marketing and promotion of provincial and regional summer livestock, skill and personal development programs, in addition to promoting the work of the 4-H and Agriculture Education across Alberta.

Provincial 4-H Summer Program Assistant (Lifeguard and Non-lifeguard) - 4-6 Positions

Based in Airdrie - May 1 to August 31 (1-2 positions may be offered June 28 to August 31)

  • Collaborate with fellow Provincial 4-H Summer Program Assistants to develop, deliver and evaluate various week-long provincial and regional 4-H member summer programs at various sites across Alberta.

Provincial 4-H Summer Program Project Coordinator - 1-2 Positions

Based in Airdrie - May 1 to August 31

  • With support of the 4-H Specialist – Programs, this position will lead the team of Provincial 4-H Summer Program Assistants to develop, deliver and evaluate week-long provincial and regional 4-H member summer programs at various sites across Alberta.

 

Provincial 4-H Summer Travel and Exchange Coordinator - 1 Position

Based in Airdrie - May 1 to August 31

  • Work with 4-H Specialists to plan and coordinate summer and fall 4-H travel and exchange programs, along with providing support to 4-H Specialists on special projects.

Regional 4-H Program Assistant – Various Locations - 1-3 Positions

Potential locations include Airdrie, Barrhead/Fairview, and Stettler/Vermilion - May 1 to August 31

  • Work closely with the 4-H Specialists to plan and implement regional and provincial summer programs and livestock events, along with providing support, delivery and evaluation of these events.
