PRESENTED BY – THE SOUTHERN ALBERTA REGIONAL 4-H COUNCIL

HELLO SNOWFEST 2019 DELEGATES!!!!

I’m getting really excited to be hanging out soon in elkwater with some of the most amazing 4-H Members from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan!!!!!

I just wanted to touch base and send out this information package to help you pack for SNOWFEST and give your parents directions on how to get to Whispering Pines Camp.  I will be sending out a Bus Schedule to those that have indicated they are travelling by bus. We have had 3 Senior Staff, 1 Senior Councillor and 8 Councillors developing the attached schedule of what we have planned for this year’s camp, it looks amazing!

HOW TO GET THERE: when travelling south on Highway #41 towards Elkwater, Do NOT turn into the townsite.  Continue on #41 for about a half mile and make the first left, the sign says Whispering Pines Camp and Rodeo Grounds.  The Camp is about a half mile north of #41. If you make the curve and head towards the Ski Hill, you have gone too far!

WHAT DO SLEEPING QUARTERS LOOK LIKE: Whispering Pines has 8 Cabins that are divided into 2 sides with 3 sets of Bunk Beds on each side.  They provide baseboard heaters in these cabins which provides plenty of heat to be comfortable in very frigid conditions (which I don’t think we will be experiencing this year, -10 to -15 forecasted!!!). A councillor will be in each cabin to supervise and ensure that delegates have a positive experience. The Main Building includes the Kitchen, Dining Room, Auditorium, Bathrooms and Showers.

WHAT TO PACK: As this is a winter trip it is important to dress appropriately for the participating activities. Inappropriate clothing will negatively affect the experience! We have a high number of Delegates this year so if you could mark your child’s items, you might get them all home….eventually!!!

Warm Sleeping Bag or Comforter, Pillow, Warm PJ’s, Towel, Facecloth, Shampoo, soap, and toiletries

Thursday evening will do have an “End of Camp” Dance; however, this is NOT a dress up event, just a clean shirt & jeans are required.

For the day at Hidden Valley Ski Hill the following equipment is recommended.

Lunch, snacks, and drinks are brought from camp to the hill.

  • Warm sweaters or multi layers to adjust for altering conditions
