Location: Alberta 4-H Centre, WESTEROSE AB

Program Description:

The Leader in Training (LIT) program is an intensive four-day program for senior members who are ready to take the next step in regards to leadership, responsibility, and learning about programming.

The four-day program provides 4-H members the skills necessary to program plan, to implement programming effectively, and to learn more in-depth information on behavior management, risk management, counselling and teaching techniques, communication, and leadership.

Graduates of the LIT program will then work directly with the Camp Directors during a camp program where they will have the opportunity to plan a portion of the program, to implement the programming and to act as an assistant to the Camp Directors by getting hands-on experience in overseeing the day-to-day activities of the camp. In addition, they will provide support to the Camp Directors and counsellors, manage camper behaviors, and communicate clearly with all campers and staff.

Led by the LIT director and camp staff, candidates are supported, nurtured and motivated by experienced the camp staff through workshops, programming and regular feedback culminating in a formal evaluation at the end of the session. This is the final stage of development for future leaders and staff members.

Candidates are carefully selected for this program. Applicants must have taken our Counsellor-In-Training program, along with a minimum of one week of counsellor at a summer or winter camp program. Our LITs are selected based upon their past camp experience, leadership potential, and involvement and interest in working with children. LITs must apply for acceptance into this program by completing a leadership application. Senior Members who have taken CIT - 15 - 20 years (born in years 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003) of age as of January 1, 2019.
