Deadline: May 16, 2018 4:00 PM
Location: across Alberta

Program Description:

To celebrate Agriculture in Alberta, Her Honour, the Honourable Lois Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta has created an educational essay contest for all junior high school students (grade level 7, 8 and 9) in Alberta. The contest invites participants to reflect on the legacy of Alberta’s agricultural pioneers, the vital connection between our land and water and the food we eat, and on the role that the land will continue to play in the security and well-being of future generations.

The contest is being distributed to Alberta schools with junior high school classrooms and Alberta’s 4-H Clubs. Each participating school and 4-H Club (whether school or community-based) submits a selection of essays to the contest. Grand prizes of a historic railroad adventure will be awarded. All students whose essays are entered by their school or 4-H Club will receive a participation certificate signed by the Lieutenant Governor. A certificate will also be provided to participating schools and 4-H Clubs.
