Program Description:

 

NORTHWEST REGION 4-H FAIR - Thorhild Central School**  Thorhild, Alberta - SATURDAY, APRIL 29, 2017

The 4-H Fair is open to all 4-H members and adults.  There are sessions specifically for Cleaver Kids.   Any club in the Northwest Region is eligible to send registrations to the Fair. The Thorhild District welcomes you!

PROGRAM

9:15 – 9:45 a.m. Registration – Morning snack, meet and greet games, deliver exhibit entries

9:45 – 10:00 a.m. Welcome and introductions, group photo

10:00 – 11:45 a.m. Judging of Fair Exhibits - Please tag Bench Show items before arrival

10:00 – 11:45 a.m. Workshop Session # 1

11:45 – 1:15 p.m. Lunch, Bench Show Viewing

1:15 – 3:00 p.m. Workshop Session # 2

3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Awards, Evaluations, Snacks and Wrap Up

ENTRIES

Please register each person on a separate form and then submit them with a club cheque or money order made payable to: Northwest Regional 4-H Life Skills and Other Animals Committee. Entry deadline is March 22, 2017.

FEES

The fee for each member in attendance (CK, Jr, Int, Sr) is $20. This includes two workshops and lunch. Each adult in attendance must pay a $5 fee to help cover lunch costs.  A couple of the adult sessions have an additional fee.

4-H Fair Bench Show Competition 2017

4-H members in attendance are encouraged to enter.  Entries are limited to one per class.  Categories are: Cleaver Kid (6-8), Junior (9-11), Intermediate (12-14), and Senior (15-20), based on age on January 1/17.  Entries should have been made within the past year.  Danish judging will be used.

There is only one session in the am and one session in the pm

Adult Workshops

Spring Pot/Basket Planting and Care – Join the Farm Greenhouse for a session on seeding to plant care followed with a round table discussion on planting, flowers and garden vegetables.  We will also put together a small spring pot/basket to take home.   *** additional charge - $10 to cover materials

Cosmetology

Life Skills Record Book Judging Workshop (am only) - A chance to review the Record Book Guidelines and ask any questions.  This is open to all leaders, parents and community members.  Please invite anyone who will be judging record books for your club this year or in the future.

Life Skills Project/Bench Show Judging Workshop (pm only) - Learn how to judge the items that our members are creating whether it is at Achievement Day or at a Bench show.   This is open to leaders, parents and community members.  Please feel free to invite anyone who will be judging for your club this year or in the future.

Pick My Brain – This is an opportunity to chat with Stacy Murray (regional 4-H specialist), and maybe a key leader or two, and ask those burning questions you have had about all things 4-H!

Help out in a Member session – (am or pm) – If you are not participating in an adult session, the instructors for the members’ sessions would really appreciate any extra help you can give them.  There will be a sign-up sheets for volunteers to help in the session rooms.

Jr/Int/Sr Member Workshops

am only – Wooden Device Speaker – Learn how to make a passive speaker for your electronic device (cell phone / iPod).

am/pm - Painting – Footprints in the sand – Laugh and visit with your friends and explore your unique painting abilities.

am/pm – Wooden Candy / Treat Dispenser – Make your own candy dispenser with wood and a mason jar! This homemade dispenser is refillable and makes a nice gift to family and friends.

am/pm – Basic Animal Care – This session will look at heart rate of your pet and how to check for ear infections.  What to do in case of emergency and when you need to call your vet.  Will finish the session with making up a basic first aid kit for your pet.

Am/pm – Wasp Deterrent – In this session we will show you how to make your own wasp deterrent.  You will be able to hang this in your yard or by your house.  This device is designed to keep wasps away.

Am/pm – Fly Tying – Have fun learning how to tie your own Fly hooks for Fly fishing.

Am/pm – Recycled Wood Signs – Using recycled wood from barns or pallets, make an inspirational painted sign to take home.
